For more than 30 years, the UC Davis Women's Resources and Research Center has served as a place for gathering, educating and advocating on issues concerning women and gender.

Open to all

Located in North Hall in the heart of the campus, the center is open to the entire university community. Its goals are to educate about women's issues and concerns; promote an understanding of the role gender plays in society; help women from diverse backgrounds achieve their full potential; and advocate for women's full inclusion, equality and advancement.

"We are unusual for a university women's center because we serve all women on campus, our students of course, but staff and faculty as well," says Peg Swain, co-director of the center.

The women's center offers educational programs such as workshops, discussion groups and special events and exhibits focusing on topics related to women and gender. It collaborates with the Campus Violence Prevention Program to offer programming on safety and self-defense, and with the Women and Gender Studies Program and the Consortium for Women and Research on academic programming.

Library and referrals

The center is also home to an extraordinary library with periodical collections and more than 7,500 books on women and gender. A librarian helps students, faculty, staff and community members find exactly what they are looking for. Anyone is welcome to browse through the library.

In addition, the center provides resources and referrals for assistance with a variety of issues, like where to find health care, counseling services, child care, legal aid, internships and more.
