UC Davis will host two new fall events with special appeal for parents.

Back to School Weekend — slated for Homecoming weekend Oct. 16-17 — will include faculty speakers, a wine tasting and behind-the-scenes campus tours.

Parent and Family Weekend, scheduled for Nov. 7-8, will include a pre-game festival and football game, college receptions and tours.

Back to School Weekend Oct. 16-17

Back to School Weekend, also geared to UC Davis alumni, will feature faculty lectures on new energy technologies, the power of poetry, autism, power foods, environmental conservation and more. Other special events include a wine tasting provided by Aggie Vintners, lunch at a campus dining commons and festivities before the Homecoming football game against Winston-Salem State.

“Back to School Weekend promises to be a lively and enriching experience for both alumni and parents,” said Richard Engel, executive director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. “Our intent is to keep the event engaging, informal and intimate.”

The cost for the program, including meals and wine reception, is $150. To register, visit http://alumni.ucdavis.edu/rsvp.

Back to School Weekend is sponsored by the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and UC Davis Extension, the professional and continuing education arm of the university.

Parent and Family Weekend Nov. 7-8

The Parent and Family Weekend is the first parent weekend to be held in more than a decade.

The weekend, spanning a Saturday and Sunday morning, will feature a rally to teach Aggie traditions to parents and a football game against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Fred Wood, vice chancellor for student affairs, will be the keynote speaker at a parent breakfast. And parents will also have time to spend with students.

“The events and activities will be designed to help families connect, learn and explore UC Davis,” said Maria Zalesky, director of parent programs.

More information on the weekend will be available this summer through the parents page of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and in the early fall through Aggie Family Pack. The cost for the weekend of activities is $30 per person.
