For Aggie parents and families, the Campus Showcase and Parent and Family Weekend Nov. 4-6 are ideal opportunities to sample the UC Davis experience and visit with students.
This year’s weekend events are expected to draw sell-out crowds of alumni and friends, but primarily freshman parents and their students, says Cal Aggie Alumni Association Director of Programs Jane Eadie.
The weekend kicks off on the morning of Friday, Nov. 4, with a series of seminars conducted by UC Davis faculty including:
- Jeff Loux, chair of the Science, Agriculture and Natural Resources Department of UC Davis Extension and adjunct assistant professor in Environmental Design;
- Michael Ziccardi, an associate professor at the School of Veterinarian Medicine and director of the Oiled Wildlife Care Network;
- Louis Warren, the W. Turrentine Jackson Professor of Western U.S. History; and
- Charlie Bamforth, the Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of Malting and Brewing Sciences.
The evening includes a wine tasting featuring wines made by UC Davis alumni.
On Saturday, parents and family members can choose from an array of activities including a workshop on coaching your student through the university; a series of lectures on feeding the planet; college tours; and a behind-the-scenes tour of the new teaching winery, brewery and food science facilities. Also on the schedule are a barbecue and afternoon football game against the Cal Poly Mustangs. The evening offers a performance by mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano at the Mondavi Center.
Concluding the weekend’s scheduled events is Sunday brunch with Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi.
A ticket for all Friday events is $30 for members of the alumni association or Aggie Parents Association and $45 for nonmembers; a ticket for Saturday events, excluding the football game and concert, is $50 for members and $65 for nonmembers. Tickets for some events may be purchased individually.
Tickets for the football game must be purchased through the UC Davis Ticket office at (530) 752-1915, and tickets for Saturday’s concert must be purchased through the Mondavi Center at (866) 754-2787 or www.mondaviarts.org.
