April 25, 2007
Dear UC Davis Parents:
You've entrusted your children to us — a circumstance likely made more worrisome by the tragedy at Virginia Tech.
I want you to know that I've been in touch twice with your children (and with our entire campus community) since we learned the awful news. My April 23 e-mail provided specific information about our emergency preparedness, our communications capability, and our efforts to prevent such tragic incidents. I anticipate this information is of interest to you, too. Ensuring your children's safety is of paramount concern to us and a responsibility that we take very seriously.
You may find that your children need a bit more of your time and understanding right now. Our Counseling and Psychological Services office has posted a special letter to parents at its Web site. I hope you find it a helpful resource.
Sincerely,
Larry N. Vanderhoef
Chancellor
