Points of InterestUC Davis Bookstore(530) 752-6846 The UC Davis Bookstore sells textbooks and other college supplies, general interest and reference books, UC Davis clothing and merchandise, and gifts. Within the main bookstore in the Memorial Union Building, there is a computer shop and a Clinique counter. The bookstore sells gift certificates, offers online shopping and can ship purchases. Also operated by the UC Davis Bookstore are stores in the South Silo and the Health Sciences Complex. The Sacramento bookstore near the UC Davis Medical Center is the largest medical bookstore in Northern California and sells items with UC Davis, medical center and School of Medicine insignia. Hours vary. The Egghead SeriesThe Egghead Series by Robert Arneson is among the most recognizable art at UC Davis and a favorite for visitors' photographs. The five Eggheads are located as follows: Bookhead, Shields Library plaza; Yin & Yang, Fine Arts Complex; See No Evil/Hear No Evil, east lawn of King Hall; Eye on Mrak (Fatal Laff), Mrak Hall mall; and Stargazer, between North Hall and Young Hall. Arboretum(530) 752-4880 Popular with strollers, joggers and cyclists, the 100-acre Arboretum stretches along the banks of the Putah Creek to form a three-mile loop on the south side of campus. It is an outdoor classroom, research laboratory and public garden. The Arboretum has more than 4,000 kinds of plants and trees, with a specialization in plants adapted to the Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Trained docents lead free public tours weekends during the academic year. An annual plant fair draws hundreds of visitors. California Raptor CenterOff Old Davis Road, south of Interstate 80(530) 752-6091 The California Raptor Center rehabilitates injured and orphaned raptors. It receives over 250 injured or ill raptors each year and is able to release more than 60 percent of these birds. The Center provides hands-on training in the care and management of birds of prey as well as educational programs for the general public. The center is open to the public Monday through Saturday. The QuadSouth of Memorial Union Building At the heart of the campus, the Quad is the central gathering place for students. On sunny afternoons, they study or play Frisbee on its green lawn. The Quad is also the setting for festive events and student protests. After growing barley and alfalfa for harvest for years, in 1932 the Quad was seeded for lawn grass and a sprinkler system was installed by students as a Labor Day project. Visitor Information CentersGeneral campus information is available in person or by telephone from four visitor information centers: Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center North Gate Visitor Information Kiosk South Gate Visitor Information Kiosk Memorial Union Visitor Information Center ToursCampus Events and Visitor Services Self-Guided Tours Brochures for self-guided campus tours are available at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. After hours, a few copies are left outside the main entrance on the south side of the building. Virtual Tours UC Davis offers a virtual tour showing "all the campus offers to inspire students to learn, live and prepare." ParkingTransportation and Parking Services A valid UC Davis permit is required to park on campus weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 15 to June 15, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16 to Sept. 14, and during special events. Visitor permits may be purchased from permit dispensing machines located at the entrances to several lots on campus. Parking Meters are available to any motor vehicle for the time purchased by coin, not to exceed the length of time posted for the area. Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day yearround. TicketsMondavi Center Ticket Office The Mondavi Center Ticket Office handles ticket sales for the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, the Department of Music, and the Department of Theatre and Dance. UC Davis Ticket Office The UC Davis Ticket Office located at Freeborn Hall handles ticket sales for Aggie Athletics, Associated Students of UC Davis and other ticketed events at Freeborn Hall and Recreation Hall. To and From UC DavisAmtrak Amtrak serves Davis from its station at 840 Second St., near G Street, in downtown Davis. The train station is about a 10-minute walk from the eastern edge of campus. For more information, call Amtrak at (530) 758-4220 or (800) 872-7245. Amtrak Bus and Shuttle Unitrans offers bus service to and from the Amtrak station on its A line. The campus and city bus service also operates a shuttle from the Amtrak station on Sundays and selected holidays. The shuttle meets most afternoon and evening trains and drops passengers off anywhere in Davis. For more information, call (530) 752-BUSS. Sacramento International Airport The airport is served by more than 12 major airlines and one commuter line. Located between Woodland and Sacramento on Interstate 5, it is about a 30-minute drive from campus. Ground transportation is available. Other Airports The region is also served by the Oakland International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport. Bus and Airport Yolobus offers service to and from the Sacramento International Airport seven days a week on its #42 route series. Airport Shuttle The Davis Airporter and Super Shuttle offer door-to-door service to and from the Sacramento International. University Airport UC Davis also operates a general aviation, noncontrolled airport off Hutchison Drive west of Highway 113. Services include fuel, maintenance and repair, rentals and charters, and auto and aircraft parking. Those who use the airport must arrange their own ground transportation.
